Zurich Insurance Website (Zurich-Connect.co.uk): I found their site straightforward enough to use, from their homepage it was only one click to open a new window to get a quote. Although to me their overall look was on the boring side, I couldn't fault it for its simplicity. All the questions were well laid out with three small sections on one page for me to fill out, these were the usual things asking about my details and about my car.
I was more than surprised to find out that this was all there was to it, after that I was taken straight on to my actual quote. This was also where I could choose any extras.
However, for all the speed and simplicity in the world the price of the quote almost scared me. They also have a compulsory excess of £100, a young persons excess of £250, and they automatically set my voluntary excess to £250, which would have meant a total of £600, rather pricy in my opinion. But I had the opportunity to change this, which I soon did, setting my voluntary excess to £0.
My final quote from them, with the £0 voluntary excess, was £2377.45 or I could of chosen 10 monthly installments of £215.16, with a deposit of £430.32. Considering how expensive this was I decided to change my voluntary excess back to £250 to see what this would do to my quote. Turns out it made it less than £100 cheaper, with an annual total of £2290.85.
Zurich Insurance by Phone: After the recorded messages I was given 3 choices to get through to the right department, 1) sales, 2) services or 3)discuss an online quote. However as I was trying to get a quote over the phone I wasn't sure whether this would be classed as sales, as I guess its something they sell, or whether it would be services, as insurance is a service. Luckily as it's a 50/50 chance my first choice of "sales" turned out to be the right way to go. After getting through to someone, I found they had a really strong accent that I couldn't quite place that made hearing and understanding some of the question a bit tricky. This wasn't helped by the fact that some of their questions were rather long winded and worded so formally it almost made them not make sense, was rather like being back in school doing an exam. They did explain things when I asked them to though and they didn't rush through things. They explained my excess and their young persons excess, and told me about how the amount of voluntary excess I pay lowers my overall quote. One thing I really like though was at the end of the call they thanked me for calling and told me to have a great day and to take care, which is only a little thing, but it was a nice end to the call.
My final quote was for one annual installment of £1843.78, or I had the option of 10 monthly installments of £166.86 with a deposit of £333.72.*
