Virgin Money Insurance Review

Virgin Money Insurance Website (VirginMoney.com): The Virgin Money website was characteristically red, white and black. Their actual home page looked really nice and modern, and everything was clearly laid out, so finding the quote page was easy.

A new window then opened for me to get a quote, they first asked me for my details and my cars details, one thing I found a bit annoying though was that the lowest I could put as the cars estimated value was £1000, so although my car is worth rather less than that, I had no other options.

The next page then asked me about the level of cover I wanted and asked about any no-claims bonuses and all that, several of these questions also had a link to click on which opened another window to explain the questions fully. The next page was a load of statements and writing explaining what you agree to, and all the details along those lines, though I have to admit at first glance it's rather intimidating to look at, and I didn't really think it was needed, at least not until the page to actually buy the quote. I was then asked if I wanted to pay monthly or annually and what type of card I would be using. The page after this was the quote page and also asked for my card details.

Although throughout all the pages the questions were simple and well written, it all felt very formal and impersonal. Although I did like the fact that at the top of each page, they kept a running total of your quote. This could have been confusing, but they break it all down, and told me how much of it was for each particular thing.

For my final quote I had the option of paying in one lump sum annually at £1785, or to pay monthly. If I were to pay monthly it would be a total of £1935.49, breaking down to a deposit of £351.75, my first monthly instalment at £158.41, and then 9 other monthly payments of £158.37.

Virgin Money Insurance by Phone: Once I had gotten through to a person, which was quite quickly, I found them to be exceedingly friendly, they were really polite and asked if it was ok with me for them to call me by my first name. The questions they asked me were short and to the point, and not once was I asked an irrelevant question. One thing that did bother me though was how long the process was, it wasn't that the call itself took ages, it was just that after every question the person I was speaking to would go quiet for a while which just left me there listening to silence. However in saying that they did explain things well to me and there was no chance of them going so fast that I could miss something. They told me exactly what their cover would include, but they didn't offer me any extras, though to be fair the insurance pretty much covered everything. At the end of the call I did ask them not to send me any mail, they said that was no problem, but did sound a bit peeved by it. Overall though I found them really informative and despite listening to silence a lot of the time, the whole thing was quite fast. They also offered to keep my quote for 90 days, and gave me a code so I could retrieve my quote again.

My final quote was for £1725.65 as an annual payment. Or 10 monthly instalments of £153.97 with a deposit of £342.97.*
