The AA Insurance Website (TheAA.com): I found their website really easy to use, and with everything being in their bumblebee yellow and black all the important information stood out. Even before clicking to get a quote they explain what's covered with their insurance, which I thought was rather useful.
To actually get a quote, all I had to do was fill in one page of information, the first section was about my details and although it asked me for my phone number and email this isn't compulsory so I could have left it blank. They then asked me about my car, and with any questions that weren't completely obvious they had a link to a pop up help box.
They then asked about my license details and the cover I wanted, these were only a few quick questions about how long I'd had my license, any claims I'd made in the past few years and when I would want my cover to start. I then had the option to add other drivers to the policy. The whole thing probably only took me a minute or two to fill in and was easy to understand. It then took me through to my quote, and as before, at the top of the page was their logo, their slogan and the number to call them on if I needed help.
The final quote page itself was well laid out with all the prices at the top in big yellow boxes, and then any additional features below, I though this was good as I could add extra features such as accident health cover or car hire, click the recalculate button, and it would tell me what it brought my overall quote up to. It was at this point as well that I could choose what to set my voluntary excess to, and it explained what my compulsory excess would be for different claims.
My final quote was 1 single payment of £1461.35, or 11 monthly payments of £137.11 with a deposit of £146.14. This was with a £250 excess though, if I had set my excess to £0 my quote would of risen by just under £100.
The AA Insurance by Phone: On calling the AA phone lines I was put through to a recorded voice that explained all the legal details about them recording calls and all that. I was then put straight through to a person who was very friendly and polite. They took all my details without rushing it all and when choosing the level of cover I wanted they explain all the options and what each one would offer. They explained the details of their cover clearly including telling me how long the standard cover car would last, the details about the hire car and then explained my excess fees, which would be £500. I was also told that if I purchased breakdown cover I would receive 10% off my quote, this would apply if I choose to pay annually or if I paid monthly. Throughout the whole phone call I felt I was able to ask any questions I needed to ask and after finding out that this would be my first time buying insurance they went through each section with me making sure I understood what it all meant.
My final quote was £1414.44, though this was without the breakdown cover so didn't have the 10% off. If I was too pay monthly I would have a deposit of £141.44, then 11 monthly payments of £132.72 which would be a total of £1601.36 again though this is without the 10% and the breakdown cover.*
