GoCompare Insurance Comparison Review

Go Compare Website (GoCompare.com): Go Compare don't have an option to get a quote by phone so I could only use their website, to be honest though the way the site works means that you wouldn't need to call them.

When I first loaded up their home page almost everything was green, this isn't unexpected if you've ever seen their adverts or even their logo. From the home page it was 1 click to get a quote, a big green button saying 'get quotes', this was next to a cartoon picture of a car so it really couldn't of been easier. This then brought up a new window where they started taking my details.

The first things they asked me were for my name, email and my date of birth. The next page then asked me for my address, my cars details and my cover details. All the questions were very simple and effective with nothing I thought was unnecessary, most of the questions were either simple yes or no answers, or they had a drop down menu to select an answer from. The next section asked me about previous claims and convictions, my occupation and some more general details. They also asked me for some reason whether I was a home owner, how many other cars in the house and whether or not I had children, I don't quite get what these have to do with car insurance, but nevertheless they're there.

After this it was just a few questions about my car and its security, and then some about what level of cover I wanted. It then asked me to make up a password and a security question so that I could log back into my quote at a later date. Throughout all of the questions though I had no problems, I thought everything was clearly laid out and the questions stuck to the point and didn't confuse me by using any complicated jargon.

They then searched through 122 providers for me and found me 65 quotes. I was surprised to find that of the first 10 quotes I only recognized one company name and that was Kwik fit, and the company that offered me the cheapest quote was Thames City, again a company I had never heard of. While filling out the online form I had set my voluntary excess to £0 as I wanted to see what each sites compulsory excess was without any voluntary amounts being added to it.

Most of the final quotes only gave me the annual payment quote and said that if I wanted monthly installments I would have to check with the individual companies themselves. On the whole though I found this site really easy to use and it saved a lot of time by searching all these companies for me, however out of the 122 providers it did only give me quotes for 65 which in one respect is more than enough, but 65 is only around half of the companies.

My first 10 quotes were:

THAMES CITY: £1010.93 (£550 excess)
GREEN INSURANCE: £1150.21 (£500 excess)
GREEN INSURANCE PLUS: £1197.21 (£500 excess)
KWIK FIT: £1221.96 (£400 excess)
DIVA: £1231.40 (£400 excess)
EXPRESS ENSURER: £1255.73 (£0 excess)
ITS4ME: £1265.10 (£250 excess)
SWINTON: £1266.91 (£250 excess)
KWIK FIT PLATINUM: £1269.19 (£400 excess)
MOTOR INSURANCE WAREHOUSE: £1283.67 (£250 excess)
