Aviva Insurance Review

Aviva Insurance Website (Aviva.com): With their bright yellow everywhere and a big 60's style picture of some hippies, I though the site had a nice and laid back look to it. Even when on to the quote page the bright yellow still stayed and gave the whole things a nice summer sunshine look.

The actual quote itself started off with a list of assumptions they make, which I had to agree with in order to continue. This was fine for me so it took me on to the next page.

Again at the top against the yellow header they had their logo and a picture offering me two months free insurance. This page was just a load of questions asking about me, my car, my license and what cover I wanted. They then gave me the option asking whether I wanted to pay in monthly installments, or annually. For me this is where a black cloud may as well of popped my little sunshine bubble. This was partly because they had automatically set my voluntary excess to £300, and in an attempt to be clever I decided to lower it to the least it would allow me, which was £150. My quote then came out for £2813 annually, of £3230.20 broken down into 10 monthly installments and with a deposit. I was shocked by how expensive this was all becoming.

My final quote then after I had reset my voluntary excess back to £300 was for 10 monthly installments of £258.02, plus a deposit, making a total of £2734.00. However if I paid annually it would have been one payment of £2644. I did have the option of setting my voluntary excess to anything up to £1000, which I'm sure would of lowered my quote, but really would be crazy for me to do.

Aviva Insurance by Phone: I found Aviva a really personal company while on the phone, even the recorded messages sounded like they were talking to me rather than talking at me. Once through to a person the first thing they asked me was my name and then for the rest of the call called me by my actual name rather than 'miss so-and-so" which I thought was a nice touch. They were informative to talk to and without me having to ask them to, any questions that were either a bit long winded or puzzling, they automatically explained. Throughout the whole call the person I spoke to was polite and quite chatty which made it feel more like talking to a friend while out for a drink, rather than talking to some big scary insurance person. They explained everything that would be covered by their insurance and explained all the excess and the costs of different claims. One thing I thought was a bit strange was that their compulsory excess was £300 and their voluntary excess was set at £150, maybe this was their young persons excess, but I thought it was a bit strange that I'd have to pay voluntary excess, which makes it non-voluntary, if you see what I mean?

My final quote from Aviva was £1761.80 annually, or monthly installments of £160.61 with a deposit of £293.64. They also got a quote from the RAC for me which was cheaper at £1597.77 annually, the person I spoke to then offered to put me through to the RAC so I could talk to them about my quote as theirs was the cheaper and therefore the one I would be most likely to use.*
