Admiral Insurance Review

Admiral Insurance Website (Admiral.com): I found the admiral website really easy to use. When I first got to their home page there was a massive picture of the guy from the advert, and I have to admit he kind of scares me.

I quickly went on to the quote in my attempt to run away from him. I was first asked for my details but for some reason I was also asked me for my mother's maiden name as well when my house hold insurance was due for renewal, which to be honest are rather irrelevant to me.

The rest of the questions in this section though were very simple and straightforward. They asked me about the car, where I would park it and the market value of the car. After this I was asked some questions about my licence, and all the questions about claims and accidents. After clicking next, I found myself on the final page where they gave me my quote and offered me extra options such as breakdown cover and personal injury cover. I was pleasantly surprised by how quick the whole process was as I had expected a few more pages with more questions on.

Unsurprisingly almost all their website was blue, albeit different shades of blue, but I found it almost a bit too much. One thing I found at the end which I thought was more than a little sneaky was that they automatically set my voluntary excess to £350, which on top of the compulsory excess of £250 brought my total to £600 which in my opinion is rather ridiculous. Once I changed my voluntary excess to £0 however my actually quote went up by almost £300.

My final quote from them was £1413.50, though if I had chosen to keep my voluntary excess at £350, my final quote would have been £1136.30.

Admiral Insurance by Phone: After the usual pre-recorded messages taking me through to the right person I needed to talk to, and all the legal waffle about how they can record your calls and how they use your information, I was put straight through to a person. The person I spoke to was really nice right from the start of the pone call, they introduced themselves and asked what I needed, when I said I needed a quote they then took me through all the questions explaining what they meant along the way. I found them very informative, and they were very clear with what everything meant, not only did they not rush things but they spoke in a clear voice which is a heck of a lot more helpful than someone who races through everything so fast you have no idea what's just happened. They explained their young persons excess, of £250 and what that would bring my total excess to. They also explain to me that if I was to pay a voluntary excess it would lower my over all quote, they even gave me examples of what my quote would be with different amounts of voluntary excess. Once they had given me my quote they asked if it would be ok with me for them to email me with all the details of the quote. Lastly, they asked me if there was anything else I wanted to talk to them about, or if I had any more questions about any particular part of their quote.

My final quote from them was £1413.50 but as they pointed out to me if I were to pay an extra voluntary excess of £150 this would bring my quote down to £1239.20*
